Chief Engagement and Development Officer

The Montana State University Alumni Foundation

The Opportunity Overview

The Montana State University Alumni Foundation is seeking a visionary and integrative leader to serve as its Chief Engagement and Development Officer — a newly elevated executive role that unites fundraising, alumni engagement and strategic communications under a single, coordinated vision. This is a rare chance to architect a holistic advancement model from the top, placing donor and alumni relationships at the very center of how a thriving land-grant institution builds its future.

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the CEDO will lead three integrated enterprises — Engagement, Development and Strategic Communications — ensuring they operate as a single engine driving affinity, pride and philanthropic momentum. This leader will guide comprehensive campaign strategy, set ambitious performance metrics and mentor a multidisciplinary team that includes the Vice Presidents of Engagement and of Strategic Communications, all while personally cultivating and closing principal-level gifts in support of MSU's highest priorities.

The ideal candidate brings progressive fundraising leadership, a proven record of securing transformational major gifts and the rare ability to align people, messaging and strategy across a complex organization. They are a confident, collaborative ambassador — equally at home rallying a team, partnering with university deans and provosts or sitting across the table from a high-capacity donor — with the vision to make alumni engagement the foundation of lifelong philanthropy.
