Montana State University Alumni Foundation
The Opportunity Overview
The Montana State University Alumni Foundation is seeking a visionary leader to serve as its Chief Development Officer (CDO), providing executive leadership for the Foundation’s comprehensive fundraising and development enterprise across colleges, units and alumni and friends constituent groups. The CDO advances a philanthropic strategy that builds meaningful donor relationships, strengthens private support and secures transformational resources for Montana State University’s priorities.
Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the CDO will oversee major gifts, principal gifts, leadership annual giving, planned giving and campaign strategy, ensuring these functions operate as a coordinated, results-oriented enterprise. This leader will guide comprehensive campaign strategy, set performance metrics and lead a high-performing team of development professionals, all while personally cultivating and closing principal-level gifts in support of MSU’s highest priorities.
The ideal candidate brings progressive fundraising leadership, a proven record of securing transformational major gifts and the ability to align people, processes and strategy across a complex organization. They are a confident, collaborative ambassador who is equally at home rallying a team, partnering with university deans and provosts or sitting across the table from a high-capacity donor.
