Derek Dictson is an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF), dedicated to helping nonprofit leaders and advancement professionals lead with heart, uncover their strengths and create meaningful impact. Known for his empathetic, insightful and results-oriented style, Derek guides clients to find clarity, build genuine connections and balance ambitious career goals with personal fulfillment.
With more than 25 years of leadership experience, Derek has held senior roles at nationally recognized institutions, including his current position as Chief Development Officer at the Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation. He has also served as Vice President for University Advancement at Colorado State University, President of the New Mexico State University Foundation and in advancement leadership positions at Auburn University and the Texas A&M Foundation. Beyond higher education, Derek has led a community health clinic, a community foundation and an international professional association—revitalizing struggling programs, building strong teams and securing transformational gifts that changed organizations and communities.
Derek earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government & Public Service and his Bachelor’s in Agricultural Business and Economics from New Mexico State University. He has also completed executive training at Harvard Business School and contributes thought leadership on entrepreneurial philanthropy while serving on nonprofit boards, including the Engineering Development Forum.
