The Opportunity Overview
The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Director of Development to lead major gift fundraising efforts for three of its academic units (College of Liberal Arts, Orvis School of Nursing and School of Public Health). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced advancement professional to play a pivotal role in building private philanthropic partnerships that support academic excellence, enhance student experiences and advance the mission of Nevada’s flagship university. Reporting to one of the Executive Directors of Development and working closely with the assigned unit’s leadership, the Director of Development will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors ($25,000+), while aligning fundraising strategies with the unit’s goals and priorities.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and four years of related professional experience or a Master’s degree and two years of related professional experience, preferably in higher education fundraising, non-profit organizations or a related field that emphasizes strong relationship-building and outcome-driven results. The ideal candidate is tenacious, proactive and driven by outcomes, with a strong sense of initiative and urgency. They take ownership, embrace challenges and focus on solutions rather than obstacles. Comfortable managing a portfolio and working independently, they are motivated by goals, metrics and meaningful engagement with donors. The Directors must be based on campus and will travel at least once a quarter, potentially more as strategic priorities dictate.
